NEVS Press Release – EV license China

NEVS receives electric vehicle production license in China

–Please see additional info after the ending of the NEVS Press Release–

The Chinese government has today approved NEVS’ application to start production of electric vehicles in its manufacturing plant in Tianjin.

– I am very grateful for the approval we now have received for the electric vehicle production license. It is an extremely important milestone for NEVS, which is based on 70 years of Saab long history. It means that we can take the next step to realize our vision – to shape mobility for a more sustainable future, says Kai Johan Jiang, chairman of NEVS.

The electric vehicle production license approved by the Chinese National Development Reform Commission (NDRC) is required in order to manufacture electric vehicles in China. NEVS is the first joint venture company with investors from outside China that is granted a New Energy Passenger Vehicle Project investment approval by NDRC.

NEVS’ manufacturing plant in Tianjin is under construction and planned to be up and running at the end of 2017, with the capacity of 200 000 electric passenger vehicles yearly.

The electric car industry is growing rapidly in China. NEVS plan is to develop a product portfolio of electric vehicles and mobility services globally, with China as the first and most demanding market for the coming years. The immediate plan is to deliver 150 000 9-3 Sedan electric vehicles to the partner Panda New Energy, a new energy vehicle leasing company in China.

More information regarding the “9-3 EV”

The first EV for China internally refered to as the “9-3 EV” has not yet gotten its final name. It Might be 9-3 but it might be something else.
After a talk with a dear friend it is assumed that NEVS will be attending AUTO Shanghai  in April. If so… they will have to work fast since the show due in just three months.

The car will as I understand it not look exactly as the NEVS 9-3 we know as the 9-3 Griffin displayed above. Lets just wait and see if the treatment to the exterior is as good as I´ve seen pictures of in the past.

    1. Hej Ragnar! Kul att du skriver en kommentar!

Hi Ragnar! Thanks for writing a comment.

Regarding production things must progress rapidly as there are som 150.000 cars ordered. NEVS will get payed when the cars are to be built. So… In order to speed up the process in development of the future line of cars (the first cars based on the “Phoenix” architecture), cars must be built asap. When asap is will be disclosed quite soon.

    2. !!!!!

An update regarding NEVS productivity and show appearances.

The Auto show appearance may have to be moved to later this coming fall. In Europe once the NG NEVS cars are ready for production. When? No idea. 2018?

      1. The underpinnings, basically the skeleton, for the Chinese NEVS 9-3 (Essentially the Spyker-Swedish Automobile/Saab Automobile AB Saab NG 9-3 Griffin) EV will be made in Trollhättan and then shipped over to Tianjin for final Major assembly. It would be Stupid not to offer some up for sale in at least Sweden.
      2. NEVS has due to Chinese political manufacturing policy been forced to build almost everything of the 150.000 9-3 EV that has already been sold in Tianjoin in China except for the above mentioned underpinnings.
      3. Once the Tianjin NEVS Griffin 9-3 EV cars are rolling off the line at the NEVS factory in Tianjin, may the now NEVS branded old-ish SAAB factory in Trollhättan get the money to invest in tooling for the Trollhättan plant for production of the brand spanking NG 9-3 on Phoenix underpinnings with a NEVS badge.
      4. Hopefully by 2018 we will see a NEW NEVS car roll of the line at Stallbacka/Trollhättan. And then Hopefully with SAAB Automotive AB electronics for self driving cars tech etc and a KOENIGSEGG One litre displacement, 200hp Boxer Range Extender making the car ideal for long commuting and heavy towing. Say 450 miles in total range…

I am Also informed that NEVS will commence OEM production while waiting for the new cars to be ready for production.

I WANT CONCEPT/-S FROM NEVS THAT SHOWS WHAT THE NEW CAR/-S LOOK LIKE AND SPECS!!! I want to ne dazzled and find that the cars are Saaby and not just “another car” like a Hyundai or an Audi. I want somethong unique!
